Modern Protection for Your Property

Your consumer unit — often still referred to as the fuse board — is the heart of your home's electrical system. It distributes power to every circuit and, crucially, provides the safety mechanisms that protect against electric shock and electrical fires. If your property still has an old rewirable fuse board or an early MCB board without RCD protection, it's no longer meeting current safety standards.

BP Electrical Ltd upgrades consumer units to the latest regulations, fitting modern metal-clad units with RCD and RCBO protection. Metal consumer units are now required under Amendment 3 of BS 7671, replacing the older plastic enclosures that posed a fire risk. Every upgrade includes full testing of your existing circuits and certification on completion.

For landlords, a consumer unit upgrade is often essential to meeting your legal obligations. The Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 — and equivalent Scottish standards — require that electrical installations are safe and inspected at regular intervals. An outdated fuse board is one of the most common issues flagged during an EICR, and upgrading it is often the most straightforward route to compliance.
